Dig Clams on North Beach

Try your luck going after the elusive razor clam. North Beach is home to this delectable fellow, who is so fleet of foot that he can dig one vertical foot in 10 seconds when aroused! A fun challenge at low tide for the whole family, and one that is amply rewarded by its sweet and rich flavour of this, the king of all clams.

Shovels (known as clam 'guns') and instructions available at the office.

Other clams such as cockles and butter clams do sometimes wash up on our beaches in the fall, but these clam beds occur in the lower reaches of rocky reefs and are not as easily accessible.

Dungeness Crab Feasts

During the summer months, Dungeness crabs (aka king crabs) swarm the beaches of Tow Hill, where they provide great sport and easy pickings for the adventurous, who, armed with large dip-nets and clad in chest waders (optional) or cutoffs and sneakers (footwear mandatory!!), wade waist-high in the surf, scooping crabs off the bottom around low tide. Some of these crabs get as large as 3 pounds; and while stocks are presently abundant, we do recommend non-retention of ALL female crabs.

For the less energetic, crab-traps may be set out for a tide, and monitored from the beach.

N.B.: Salt-water fishing license required. Daily limit 6 crabs.
